John is a member of the Civil Litigation Practice in Wiedner & McAuliffe’s Chicago office. His practice emphasizes claims involving trucking accidents, premises liability, employment discrimination, and commercial litigation.
John graduated from the University of Michigan in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 2003. While at the University of California, John served as a judicial extern to United States District Judge for the Northern District of California, Judge Susan Y. Illston.
Before joining Wiedner & McAuliffe, John served a two-year clerkship with the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Administrative Law Judges. In this position, John worked on federal whistleblower claims under statutes including the Surface Transportation Assistance Act, AIR 21, and Sarbanes-Oxley. He also worked on workers’ compensation claims under the Longshore and Haborworkers' Compensation Act and wage-and-hour claims under the McNamara-O'Hara Services Contract Act.
In one significant case, John collaborated with Wiedner & McAuliffe’s Workers’ Compensation Group to aggressively pursue a civil action arising out of a fraudulent workers’ compensation claim. The civil lawsuit resulted in the Illinois Circuit Court voiding the claimant’s workers’ compensation award and awarding monetary damages to John’s client.
John co-chairs coordination of Wiedner & McAuliffe’s corporate philanthropy project, the annual JP Morgan Chase and Co. Corporate Challenge series, an event raising money for a major Chicago non-profit organization.
