Summary

Robert is a partner in the Civil Litigation Practice in Wiedner & McAuliffe’s Chicago office. His practice emphasizes construction litigation, personal injury defense, employer liability defense, and commercial auto liability. Robert focuses on identifying cases for early resolution to minimize clients’ defense expenses.

Robert graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in 1980. He earned his Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago in 1993.

Before entering law school, Robert worked for Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois from 1980 to 1990. Robert joined Wiedner & McAuliffe as an associate in 2003 after nearly a decade of litigation defense experience in the Chicago metro area. Robert was associated with Presbrey and Szesny, Ltd., a firm representing employers in workers’ compensation and personal injury matters, from 1994 to 1999. Robert went on to work as an attorney for the Law Offices of Thaddeus J. Gustafson from 1999 to 2003.

Robert has lectured on the topic of Requests to Admit under Illinois Law at various bar associations. He has also presented to insurance adjusters on a wide variety of pertinent legal topics.

Notable Cases

  • Cook County building fire case – Robert obtained a summary judgment for a contractor client in a mass tort, wrongful death and personal injury lawsuit that sought $100 million in connection with the Cook County building fire of 2003. The consolidated case involved twenty-two plaintiffs. Robert was able to prove that his client, an HVAC installer, played no role in the injuries and deaths.
  • Arkansas bus accident case – Robert is currently representing a commercial body shop repairer in a consolidated mass tort wrongful death and personal injury claim arising from a 2004 Arkansas charter bus accident that caused fifteen fatalities and left fifteen people injured.

Community Involvement

Robert is currently the President of the St. Joseph’s Club of Italian Americans, an organization involved in a variety of philanthropic activities in the Northwest Suburbs. Robert also served as a volunteer for the Great Lakes Lab Rescue.
