Summary

Janet is a partner in the Workers’ Compensation Defense Practice in Wiedner & McAuliffe’s Chicago office. Janet has over 20 years of experience with the firm, covering all facets of workers’ compensation law, including the defense of claims involving the construction, manufacturing, retail, and food service industries. With her extensive experience and professional credentials, Janet oversees a team of attorneys in Chicago. Janet’s presence and leadership in these endeavors ensures the seamless representation of clients with interests in Illinois. As Special State’s Attorney for DuPage County, Janet counsels the DuPage County Board on workers’ compensation claims brought by municipal employees, including deputy sheriffs and police officers. These claims range from minor to permanent injury claims for benefits under the Illinois Public Safety Employee Benefits Act (PSEBA).

Janet graduated, with honors, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1990.

Industry Contributions

Janet frequently leads training seminars to assist clients in the development of early case resolution strategies and cost containment measures while providing valuable insight on developing areas of workers’ compensation law.

Janet is a former co-editor of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Law Section quarterly newsletter. She is also the author of Procedures: Summons/Request for Review, published in 1992.

Notable Cases

  • Lange v. Industrial Commission, 291 Ill. App. 3d 1109, 716 N.E.2d 873 (1st Dist. 1997): Janet secured the Illinois Industrial Commission’s original ruling for her client when the Appellate Court agreed that an employee was confronted with a voluntary risk outside the reasonable exercise of his job duties when he was injured after forcefully pushing a candy machine to dislodge a purchase.
